It felt like just the other day that Jimmy Choo launched its first fragrance, a sexy-smelling mix of tropical flowers with an indulgent dollop of toffee. Since then, they’ve created several more but the original has remained my favourite, along with Blossom, an easy-going floral sweetened up with juicy red berries.

A breezy floral freshened by citrus yet still kept sensual with a little musk, L’Eau is a lovely spritz-it-on-and-go every day scent but I wouldn’t call it casual. You’re not going to apply it to run errands (although there’s nothing stopping you). You’ll want to mist it on when you’re feeling feminine and pretty. It’s the kind of fragrance I’d want to wear with a flirty summer dress and sandals so the fact that it’s here now, just in time for spring, is fabulous.

Notes-wise, L’Eau opens with sparkly bergamot and hibiscus which immediately makes me reminisce about my last holiday to Mexico. (Mexican’s are mad about hibiscus! They drink it as a tea and even have a hibiscus-flavoured soda that’s even more popular than Fanta.) It then reveals a heart of pink peonies and nectarine on a bed of cedar and musk.

On my skin, I immediately get the bergamot and something sweet, pink and fruity that smells refreshing and clean. Later the musk comes through but in a way that’s sheer and light. It’s definitely a youthful scent, but it’s not juvenile. Any woman, regardless of her age, who’s young at heart and wants a summery, uplifting floral that’s elegant yet ‘joyful’ is going to love it. I know I do!

As for the bottle, you’ll see it’s most definitely related to the original – the now iconic Murano glass-inspired texture is there – but it’s taller and more translucent and the cap is pale pink instead of black.

If you’re a fan of the original Jimmy Choo, I think you’ll be surprised by L’Eau. It’s not a ‘watered down’ version of the fragrance, it’s a new interpretation, and the toffee note is nowhere to be seen. Also, if you haven’t sniffed any of the Choo’s before but appreciate sheer, elegant florals that sparkle – fragrances like Chanel Chance Eau Tendre and Eclat d’Fleurs by Lanvin – then you’ll most definitely want to get your hands on L’Eau.
